SYDNEY FITTEST IN THE CITY

We are excited to be launching the new format of our 'Fittest in the City' series in Sydney, Australia in April 2024.

Having successfully tried and tested this format in both a pairs and teams of 3  across the UK and Dubai in since 2020, 2024 will see the launch of teams of 4.

WHAT IS FITTEST IN THE CITY?

Fittest in the City, or FITC, is our fast paced, waterfall style format where teams compete in back to back workouts across a condensed competition window vying for the title of 'Fittest in the City'.

THE FORMAT

FITC will be a teams of 4 competition with 3 different categories - 

  • Male 
  • Female 
  • Mixed (2M/2F)

Each category will have the below divisions to enter  -

  • Everyday
  • Intermediate
  • Elite

For each division, please see the movement standards below.  The table is a guide - not all movements will appear but are a guide for you to use against your training level.  If you can do the below weights/movements for between 5-8 reps you will be well on your way to having a great day and fun comp.

WHEN & WHERE

The Sydney 2024 FITC will be held at the iconic ICC in Darling Harbour, Sydney.  The event will be in the indoor halls at the venue over the weekend of the 27th and 28th April 2024.

Saturday 27th April

Competing teams will be, all

  • Male teams
  • Female teams

Sunday 28th April

Competing teams will be, all

  • Mixed teams

FAQ 1 - Can you compete in both a male or female team on Saturday, and then a mixed team on Sunday? Yes, absolutely.

FAQ 2 - What time will I be competing? Teams will be assigned their heat time prior to the event.  When you enter your team, your category and division will have a 'block' of time assigned.  Your heat will be within this block. i.e. Female everyday teams will start between '8am and 11am' on Saturday.  Heats will start every 25 minutes.  Please see further info below

HOW IT WORKS - THE WORKOUTS

Workout 1 - 20min time cap - ENGINE -  this will be an engine test workout.  Teams will have a Concept2 rower, ski and bike.  Teams will have a set distance/calorie target to complete on each machine within the 20min timecap.  At certain points, athletes will set off on a run of the arena.  A teams score will be either the time they finish all the work, or the time cap of 20:00 + any unfinished calories.

Break / Warm up - 30 mins - Following workout 1, teams will have a 30 minute break to recover from workout 1 and warm up for workout 2 - the lift.

Workout 2 - 18min time cap - LIFT OFF -  this will be a strength test workout.

  • Male and female teams will each have either a male or female barbell and a set of Olympic plates and fractionals.  Teams will have a lifting platform as well as a rack to lift off.  
  • Mixed teams - female athletes will lift first, once they have completed their lifts, the male athletes will lift

Break - 7 mins 

Workout 3 - 12min AMRAP - this will be a team based AMRAP test.

  • Teams will work through a series of functional fitness movements and carries, maximising their reps in the time period.

Break - 1 min 

Workout 4 - 7 min time cap

  • Teams will stay in the arena and finish off with a sprint style relay with one athlete going at a time - working through simialr movements as the AMRAP.  Your team will finish when the last athlete crosses the finish line.  How fast will you go?

HOW TO ENTER

Entry is $560/team of 4 ($140/athlete).  You will enter your team on the Team Aretas Sydney FITC page.  When you purchase your team, you don't need to know or link your other 3 team mates right away.  You will be able to change your team name up until 4 weeks before the event.  Your team mates can also be changed right up until the day before you compete.

MOVEMENT STANDARDS

The table below is a guide - not all movements will appear but are a guide for you to use against your training level.  If you can do the below weights/movements for between 5-8 reps you will be well on your way to having a great day and fun comp.

HEAT TIMES

Depending on your division and category, your heat time will start within the below block.  Please use the below as a guide, times may fluctuate up to 90 minutes.  Your exact heat time will be released up to 4 weeks before competition weekend.

Saturday

  • Female Everyday - between 8am and 11am
  • Male Everyday - between 9am and 12am
  • Female Intermediate - between 10.30am and 13.30
  • Male Intermediate  - between 12.30 and 15.30
  • Female Elite - Between 15.00 and 16.30
  • Male Elite between 15.30 and 17.00

Sunday

  • Mixed Everyday - between 8am and 11am
  • Mixed Intermediate - between 10.00am and 14.00
  • Mixed Elite between 14.00 and 16.30

Our events would not be what they are without our incredible teams of judges and crew in each country we visit and we are looking forward to having the same in Sydney.
