SINGAPORE CITY SERIES 2024

We are excited to be bringing the Turf Games to Singapore for the first time, in partnership with HSBC SVNS. We cannot wait to meet the Singapore (and beyond) fitness community.

The 2024 Turf Games Singapore City Series will be held on the 4th + 5th May and will form part of the HSBC SVNS SGP Tournament weekend.

FITNESS + RUGBY

All athletes who sign up to take part in the Turf Games will also get guaranteed seats in the main stadium included in your entry price on your competing day to watch all the HSBC SVNS rugby action - in between your workouts and then into the early evening - TURF + SVNS - doesn't get much better!

WHAT IS TURF GAMES?

Turf Games is a team based functional fitness competition. Having started in London in 2018, we now host competitions all over the world including Dubai, Sydney, Gold Coast, London, Dublin, Cape Town, Miami, LA and more. With over 10,000 athletes having taken part in a Turf Games comp in 2023, we are excited to get to Singapore for a big 2024 event!

How is it different to a CF comp?

The workout tests that we programme are all built around teamwork - how to use your team's strengths and weaknesses - to maximise your score - all whilst having fun! The core of the workouts are based around - strength, conditioning and power. We don't programme any high skilled gymnastics or complex Olympic lifting movements. You won't be seeing any hand stands, muscle ups, overhead squats, max barbell 1RM snatches - just good old fashioned hard work and
determination. The workouts will be fun, challenging and rewarding all at the same time. You've been training at the gym, now it's time to put all that into practice on the Turf surrounded by the fitness community.

Who enters a Turf Games?

We have 3 divisions to choose from, based on your level and why you want to take part. All over the world we get people entering from their local hiit studios, F45's, REVL, Fitstop, BFT, functional fitness gyms and studios, big box gyms, all the way
to CF Boxes and & Elite Athletes.

Below is a guide on movement standards and also what division you should enter.

DATES

We will have 3 categories of teams – male, female + mixed.

Saturday 4th May

  • Male + Female teams of 4
  • Athlete check in from 8.15am. Workouts from 9.15am until 4pm.

Sunday 5th May

  • Mixed teams of 4
  • Athlete check in from 8.15am. Workouts from 9.15am until 4pm

Teams will only be required to be at checkin minimum 30 minutes prior to their heat start time.  Heat times will be sent out 2 weeks prior to the competition.

Can you compete in both a male or female team AND a mixed team? YES. It would be great to see some of the community take on both days.

LOCATION

Singapore National Stadium.

Turf Games will be hosted on the hard courts adjacent to the stadium.  There will be adequate shade erected for athletes in the venue.

TEAM DIVISIONS + CATEGORIES

Teams will comprise of 4 athletes. We will have categories of

  • Female
  • Male
  • Mixed (2M/2F)

There will be 3 Divisions to enter (please find below further information on which division to enter):

  • Everyday
  • Intermediate
  • Elite

FORMAT

In our Singapore City Series, we will be running our format where teams compete in 3 workouts across a condensed competition window vying for the title of Singapore City Series Champions in their category.

Each team will be on the TURF for 2 hours (plus warm up time) to complete their workouts and have their scores on our LIVE leaderboard.  Teams will have a 30 minute break after each workout, before heading to the next arena.

For example, if you are given a heat start time of 10.00am, you will need to arrive by 9.30am, your workouts start at 10am, and you will be completed by 12pm

  • Workout 1 - 10am - 10.20am
  • Workout 2 - 10.50am - 11.10am
  • Workout 3 - 11.40am - midday

You've been training hard - now it is time to add in tactics and teamwork and get on the TURF. Athletes will compete in 4 workouts testing various aspects of their fitness in a fun, competition style format.

WORKOUTS

How It Works

All the workouts will be released on the 20th of March. This will provide an opportunity for individuals and teams 6 weeks to train for the event and hone their teamwork. We will also be running training sessions at REVL gyms in Singapore across the coming weeks!

Teams will start on different workouts and rotate through all 3 workouts.  Teams who start on Workout A will then go to B, then C. Teams that start on Workout B, will then move to workout C, then A and so on.

Workout A - 20 min time cap - ENGINE - this will be an engine test workout. Teams will have a Concept2 rower and ski. Teams will have a set distance/calorie target to complete on each machine within the 20min timecap. At certain points, athletes will set off on a run of the arena (circa 400m). A teams' score will be either the time they finish all the work, or the time cap of 20:00 + any unfinished calories.

Break 25 mins - Following your first workout, teams will have
a 25 minute break to recover from the workout and warm up for
their second workout.

Workout B - 18min time cap - LIFT OFF - this will be a strength test workout.

  • Male and female teams will each have either a male or female barbell and a set of weight plates + a squat rack
  • Mixed teams - female athletes will lift first, once they have completed their lifts, the male athletes will lift + a squat rack
  • Everyday and Intermediate divisions will not have any 'Olympic lifting' - they will either perform a deadlift or lift from the rack (squat/press)
  • Elite division - there will be a lift off the ground involving a clean

Break – 27 mins

Workout C - 20min time cap - this will be a team based AMRAP test.

  • The Rig arena - teams will work through a series of functional fitness movements and carries, maximising their reps in the time period.

From when you first hit the TURF, to when you cross the finish line of last workout will be 120 mins. You can then enjoy the rest of the day, supporting your community or watching all the rugby action in the National Stadium.

SPECTATORS

Spectators for Singapore Turf will need to purchase a HSBC SVNS SGP ticket – this includes all the action of Turf Games, around the stadium, as well as a seat inside the stadium for the rugby. If you would like to purchase a ticket to the SGP HSBC SVSNS Rugby - you can click HERE

The winning teams from these divisions will win a partner prize pack each.

ENTRY COST

HSBC SVNS Rugby Stadium Ticket included - TURF + SVNS - All athletes who sign up will also get tickets to the main stadium to watch the rugby on your competing day/s.

Team entry will be:

  • $500 SGD + gst for a team of 4

This includes a ticket into the main stadium valued at $45 SGD on your competing day/s.

*Team entry is non-refundable unless the event date is changed or the event is cancelled.

HOW TO BUY YOUR TEAM

Team entry is now LIVE! All you need to do is buy your team by following the steps below. It isn't required that you know, or link your other 3 team mates to the team upon purchase - this can be done at a later date.

 
Step by step guide:

  • Click the ENTER YOUR SGP TEAM buttons above or below
  • Click on 'buy offer'
  • Hit the + which will default to 4; and then Find Tickets
  • Click on the division you want to enter then hit 'continue'; and follow the prompts to sign in / create an account and complete the purchase. You and your team will also be allocated 4 x general admission tickets into the stadium to watch the rugby.
  • You are booked to hit the TURF on the 4th or 5th of May in Singapore

Once you purchase your team entry from the HSBC SVNS ticket page, within 7 days, you will receive an email from Turf Games with details of how to set your team up on our competition software - Team Aretas. You can change (add / delete) team mates right up until the morning of the competition - so no worries if you haven't got all the team mates sorted now or someone pulls out - you can sub

Can I buy multiple teams?

Short answer is YES! If you want to buy multiple teams for your gym and bring your whole community you can do this when purchasing the entry. However, when you go to set up your team on Team Aretas, you will need to set up an account. An account can only enter 1 team per event. You will need to allocate a 'leader'; to each team to set up. You can change team mates and leaders right up until the day before the comp starts on 9th December.

TRAINING PARTNER

We are exited to be teaming up with REVL Singapore and their 6 gyms to host weekly TURF Training sessions at their gyms around Singapore.  Make sure you download their app so you can sign up and take part. These sessions will be open to everyone - not just REVL members.  These will be fun, team based workouts based around the Turf Games Singapore workouts.

EQUIPMENT

We will be partnering with TRIBAL (@tribalfitness_sg) for the event equipment. Tribal are specialists in quality strength and conditioning fitness equipment. Concept 2 will be providing all the ergs. Some equipment may be for sale post event. Please contact us for the price list and what's available.

       

MOVEMENT STANDARDS

The below weights are assuming you can perform multiple reps at these weights (5-8 reps).  This is the minimum work standards.  There will be other movements in the competition aside from what is listed below.

If you can achieve the below movements with the weights listed - you will be able to do Turf Games in the relevant division.  The competition will be programmed around fun, challenging workouts, designed to test teams based around what athletes in each division are capable of.

The list is a guide only and is not exhaustive, the listed movements may or may not appear in the comp. There may be dumbbell movements like stoh, hang clean and press, squats plus more included in the workouts. 

Please note there will NOT be, in any division - muscle ups, HSPU, handstand walks, butterfly or kipping pull ups, barbell overhead squats.

HEAT TIMES

Your Heat Times will go live for each division two weeks prior to the event. Teams will compete for 95 mins - time to head into the stadium and watch all the SVNS action, as well as enjoy the rest of the weekends festivities both pre and post your time on the TURF.

We are looking for a team of volunteers to join the Turf Team in Singapore. Our events would not be what they are without our incredible teams of volunteers in each country we visit and we are looking forward to having the same in Singapore.
