WHAT IS THE TURF GAMES FITTEST IN THE CITY PAIRS 'COMBINE'?

You've been TRAINING at your gym - now it is time to add in TACTICS and TEAMWORK and get On the TURF.  The Turf Games Combine is a Pairs competition where we visit 12+ gyms across the UK, starting in February 2022 and culminating in FINALS DAY in December 2022.  Athletes will compete in 4 workouts across a COMBINE testing various aspects of their fitness in a fun, competition style format.  Each pair will be on the TURF for between 50 and 70 minutes to complete their workouts and have their scores on our LIVE! leaderboard.

THE FORMAT

The 'COMBINE' will be a PAIRS competition with 3 different categories -

  • Male (M/M)
  • Female (F/F)
  • Mixed (1M/1F)

Each location will be a 'stand alone' event.  Some locations will be same sex pairs only (M/M or F/F) while some locations will be Mixed Pairs only (M/F).

We will have 2 divisions to enter, please see movements standards below.  The table below is a guide - not all movements will appear at all FITC Combine events.  If you can do the below weights/movements for between 5-8 reps you will be well on your way to having a great day and fun comp.

*AKBS = American Kettlebell Swing / RKBS = Russia Kettlebell Swing

WHAT ARE THE DIVISIONS?

OPEN ATHLETE DIVISION

This is our accessible category that anyone who wants to get on the TURF  - the weekend warrior, the 2-4 x a week gym goer, the person who wants to have a throw around with their mate but not in a 'serious' way - can get involved.  Their will be partner prizes for the winning team from each event and you can still qualify for FINALS DAY.  This is the perfect division for those who may want to 'compete' in fitness for the first time or just want to be on the TURF and unleash their competitive spirit.

This division is designed for those who are in the 'Everyday Division' or on the cusp of joining the 'Intermediate Division'. Those who are intermediate or on the cusp of elite, should be entering Elite.

ELITE ATHLETE DIVISION

Athletes who want to test themselves against the best! You are serious in the gym, training 4-6 times per week. You have competed at numerous functional fitness comps, or come from a decent sporting background.  You may even back yourselves to challenge for the silverware at the comp of your choice a want to be in the running to win some big prizes including cash.  You are on the TURF to really push yourself and want to go all in - just like the way you train!

Please respect the categories and ensure that your team enters the right category to make it a fair and fun competition for all.  Any eligibility questions, please email team@turfgames.com.

FINALS DAY QUALIFYING INFO

Anyone can enter any of the COMBINE comps. However, when it comes to qualifying for FINALS DAY, depending on the size of the FITC Combine, whether it is a half day event, full day event or whole weekend event and the number of pairs who compete in each division, will determine how many pairs in each Division & Category, at each city event 'qualify' for FINALS DAY.

Pairs who place highly in each Division will qualify* for FINALS DAY in December 2022!   The winning pairs from each event will win prizes from our partners.

*The number of pairs from each division/category who qualify will vary from city to city.

Please see FAQs at the bottom of the page about competing in multiple events (which is fine :)

Athletes can qualify in a men's and mixed final team, or a women's and mixed final team and compete in both at FINALS DAY.

    FAQ

CAN I COMPETE AT MULTIPLE COMBINES?

Yes you can compete in as many combine as you like.  However, you can only qualify for FINALS DAY in one division and category once. i.e. you finish first in two events in Mixed Pairs Elite, you will only get one spot in the final.

    HOW DOES EACH LOCATION/COMBINE WORK?

Once a FITC Combine location is announced, pairs will need to book a spot in the Division (Elite or Open) and Category (Male, Female or Mixed).  Closer to the event date, heat times will be released.  Teams will 'waterfall' through the workouts according to their start time.  For example, your start time is allocated as 2pm  - workout 1 will be 2pm, workout 2 - 2.16pm, workout 3 - 2.32pm and workout 4 - 2.48pm.  So your pair will be competing for 58 minutes.  You will need to arrive 30 minutes before your start time. Workouts may vary from location to location depending on that locations equipment and space.  The 'tests' may also vary in terms of length depending on location.

WHAT IF I HAVE ALREADY QUALIFIED?

If an athlete has already qualified (e.g. in mixed category for example) and competes at another COMBINE with a different partner (in the mixed category) and qualifies again with that pair, they will have the choice as to which pair they compete with in the final. If one athlete from a winning pair can't compete in the final - the team spot will be given to the team that came second at their qualifying event, or a wildcard team. Qualified teams can not 'sub' athletes in for the final unless there are reasonable circumstances as to why the partner can not compete (move abroad etc)

CAN I QUALIFY IN DIFFERENT DIVISIONS?

Athletes may compete in Elite & Open divisions throughout the city events, however, an athlete cannot compete in both the Elite & Open Divisions on FINALS Day. If an athlete qualifies for both divisions, they will need to choose prior to the event which division they wish to compete in on FINALS DAYS. The spot they give up will either be offered to the team that finished behind them at the city they qualified in or a wild card pair.

    WHO CAN DO THE COMBINE?

This series of events is open to anyone and everyone. Whether you are new to functional fitness competitions and want to 'have a go', to people who want to compete for the title. We want to give people something to train for, have some fun, be part of a community and meet some great people along the way (and win some prizes)
