EVENT STRUCTURE (INDIVIDUAL)
The individual competition will run on a continuous cycle, with athletes grouped together and rotating through their lifting attempts. The structure is designed to keep the competition moving smoothly and allow athletes to recover between lifts.
-
Groups of Athletes:
Athletes will be divided into groups, with 3 athletes per group, lifting simultaneously on three side-by-side platforms. -
Lifting Phase (40 Seconds):
Each athlete will have 40 seconds to complete their lift during their designated lifting phase. The lift must be initiated within this time frame. If an athlete fails to complete the lift, they may attempt it again as many times as they wish within the remaining time, but the barbell weight cannot be adjusted during this phase. -
Transition Phase (80 Seconds):
After the lifting phase, there will be a 80-second transition phase for the judges and event crew to reset the barbells and prepare the platform for the next group. During this time, the next group of athletes will be readying themselves for their attempt. -
Rest Period & Group Rotation:
After lifting, athletes will have a built-in rest period as the other groups in their category complete their attempts. For example, Group 1 will lift first, followed by Group 2, Group 3, and so on. After all groups have completed their lifts, Group 1 will return to the platform for their second attempt. This rotation will continue for all three attempts of the Ground to Overhead lift, and then repeat for the Clean. -
Barbell Weight Adjustments:
Athletes can only increase or maintain the weight of their barbell between attempts. Reducing the weight on the barbell is not permitted once the competition begins. Athletes will declare their opening lift weight during registration, and any adjustments between attempts must adhere to the rule that the weight either stays the same or increases.
Each athlete will complete three 40-second lifting phases for the Ground to Overhead and three 40-second lifting phases for the Clean lifts. All athletes within a weight category will complete their Ground to Overhead lifts before proceeding to the Clean.
EVENT STRUCTURE (PAIRS)
Teams of two will compete in a dynamic format designed to test teamwork and strategy:
- Pairs: Male / Female / Mixed
-
Groups of Athletes:
Athletes will be divided into groups, with 3 athletes per group, lifting simultaneously on three side-by-side platforms. -
Lifting Phase (6 Minutes):
Pairs will have 6 minutes to complete their Ground to Overhead lift. Athletes can alternate turns, adjusting the barbell weight themselves during the time limit in order to hit their heaviest lift. Lifts must be initiated within this time frame. -
Transition Phase (120 Seconds):
This 120-second interval allows the judges and event crew to reset and adjust the barbells for the next group of athletes. While this is happening, the next group of athletes will prepare behind their designated platforms to ensure a smooth flow of the competition. -
Rest Period & Group Rotation:
After lifting, athletes will have a built-in rest period as the other groups in their category complete their 6 minute lift phase. For example, Group 1 will lift first, followed by Group 2, Group 3, and so on. After all groups have completed their ground to overhead lifting phase, Group 1 will return to the platform for their clean lifting phase.
