2021 LONDON SUMMER INFORMATION

The countdown is well and truly on, and we can't wait to see everyone on the TURF. Please see below all the athlete information you need to know about the Summer Festival weekend.

ATHLETES SPECTATING - if you are an athlete and are wanting to come spectate on other days other than the one you are competing on, you will NOT need to buy a spectator ticket - you will need to show your athlete wrist band.  You can check in and get these when you arrive for the first time.

VENUE MAP + ARRIVAL INFORMATION

When arriving at the venue through the 'Entry Booth' (top right on the image), if you are walking in you must immediately turn left and follow the orange arrows as per the image below - this is both athletes and spectators.  Spectators will need to show their Eventbrite ticket at the entry booth before proceeding down the orange arrows.  Athletes can proceed down to check in to pick up wristbands before entering the venue.

If you are driving and parking in the venue, when you have your name crossed off the list via a member of staff at the entry booth, you will turn right and park in the car park area, following marshals instructions.  Once you have parked, you are to walk back along the car park and follow the orange arrows down the side of the venue to the check in area - you must not enter the venue by walking across the fields.  Please scan the NHS Track & Trace QR code before entering the venue. ATHLETE AREAS

At either end of the main field, as above, are two covered grandstands with seating.  These will be the 'Athlete Area's' - where you can place you bags throughout the day and be your base when you are not working out.  Teams can choose which end they would like to be at when they arrive.  Please sit with your team and leave at least 2m+ in all directions between your team and the next for social distancing purposes.  Just a reminder, bags are not allowed to enter the workout arenas or warm up arena (bottom of the above image to the left of the vendor village)

ARRIVAL TIMES + CHECK IN

Please arrive no more than 75 minutes prior to your first workout, this will allow enough time to check teams in with everyone social distancing.  One team member is to approach the desk at the athlete check in area - stand 1m away and state your Division (Elite / Everyday) and Category (Men's / Women's / Mixed) and your team name.  A member of the TG crew will check your team in. You are also to collect your 5 athlete wrist bands (Elite teams will be black and Everyday teams white), pass these to your team, sanitise your hands and then enter the venue.  We would advise that athletes wear a mask until they are in the venue 

ELITE ATHLETE HEAT TIMINGS

Please see below the timings over the weekend for the Elite Division.  The Elite category will compete on Friday night the 2nd July and all day Saturday the 3rd July.  At the conclusion of the 5 workouts on Saturday, the top 4 teams from each category will progress to a winner takes all FINAL.

Please arrive minimum 60 minutes before your first heat time of each day.  For example, if you are competing at 6.15pm Friday night please arrive by 5.15pm.  On the Saturday, given the volume of athletes, please arrive no more 90 minutes before your start time.  If your first workout is 930am, please arrive between 8.15am and 8.30am. If your first workout is 9.50am, please arrive between 8.20 am and 8.50am and so on. 

If you have, or are going to change your team name, please email us at team@turfgames.com. Please do not change your team name after 10 June.

ATHLETES - the cut off to order your Under Armour TG tops for delivery or collection is 10th June.

MOVEMENTS

Elite teams, in terms of movements that might be worth practising leading up to the event, that may or may not be included in workouts - 

Rope Climbs - we have done these in ALL Summer Festivals to date for ELITE teams only, so might be worthwhile working on your technique.  Not all athletes may need to climb a rope (potentially until the Final). Your teams tactics will determine who may climb, however, the more people in your team who can, potentially the easier it is.

Barbell GTOH (Ground to Over Head) - this is essentially a push press, shoulder to overhead or split jerk - however also includes a 'clean' off the ground to front rack position. Again we have done this in almost all Elite Division comps since 2019.

Still plenty of time to hone your skills and work on your teams strategies.

EVERYDAY ATHLETE HEAT TIMINGS

Everyday teams will compete in 4 workouts.  Men's and women's on the Saturday will all do the same workouts.  There is no winner takes all final for Everyday men and women. The podium teams are the top 3 at the end of the 4 workouts.

Everyday Mixed team will be split into 2 pools. The pools will compete in 4 workouts each. The top two teams from each pool will go through to a Winner Takes All Final.

Everyday Mixed has two Pools - POOL A & POOL B. The top 2 teams from each pool will qualify for the winner takes all final. There are 144 teams in this division 

COVID PROTOCOLS

We want to make this event as fun and safe as possible. If you can please read through and follow over the weekend.  If you are asked at anytime by a member of staff to please social distance or similar, if you can please follow.  We are all in this together so let's make it an EPIC CELEBRATION.

WHAT YOU CAN/CAN'T WEAR & BRING

In terms of what you can and can't wear when working out.  

  • Athletes CAN wear - knee and elbow supports, weightlifting belts, chalk, lifting shoes, wrist straps, sunglasses, sunscreen
  • Athletes CAN'T wear - anything that attaches to a bar to aid grip or strength
  • Glass is prohibited inside the venue.

SPECTATING

Spectator tickets are now live - get your cheer squad together so they can support you throughout the day - CLICK HERE.  Athletes will not need to purchase a spectator ticket if they want to come and watch on days they aren't competing.  You will just need to show your athlete wristband upon entry.

FOOD / DRINK

We have left no stoned unturned for this event will have a huge amount of food and drink over the weekend in our vendor village including an Optimum Nutrition smoothie bar, burgers, healthy eats, vegan dishes, pizza, ice creams, canned wine, hard seltzer, beers, coffee, water bottle refill station and a whole lot more.  

DRINKING WATER - there will be numerous areas around the venue to refill your water bottle. Please see the above venue map for locations.  We are trying to reduce plastic and waste - so if you do take a bottle of water from - please make sure you drink it all and don't leave half filled in the arena.  We would encourage you to bring a bottle and refill throughout the day

DRIVING/PARKING

We are pleased to be able to offer car parking inside the venue which will be free for teams. Each team will be allocated 1 free car park inside the grounds.  If you are going to drive, please complete this form here (1 form / team) - THIS IS NOW FULL - There is FREE parking on the streets around the venue. 

Free Now/Taxi

Head towards Ealing Trailfinders, down Vallis Way and you can get dropped off by the entrance. We have a partnership with App company FREENOW which will be 50% up to £6 off your first 2 rides. Use code FREESUMMER (valid from 1st July until 17th August)

Train

Ealing Broadway overground and underground is 1.7 miles away.  We suggest getting a taxi or bus from here which will be around 7 minutes in a taxi. Walking will take circa 30 minutes.

Bus

There are several buses including the 297, E2, E7, E9 and E10 which will take circa 20 mins from Ealing Broadway tube/overground, but please check current timetables closer to the time.

WORKOUTS 

Workouts will go LIVE in week commencing 21st June.

Elite teams will compete in 5 workouts - 3 x 14 minutes, 1 x 20 minute and 1 x 25 minute. The top 4 teams in each Elite category will qualify for a winners takes all final.
Everyday teams will compete in 4 x 14 minute workouts.  There will be no finals for the Everyday Men's or Everyday women's teams - the winning team are the teams atop the leaderboard after the 4 workouts.  The top 2 teams from each of the Mixed Everyday Pools will qualify for the winner takes all final.

TEAM REGISTRATION 

Please ensure ALL 5 athletes are linked to your team as soon as possible.  You will not be able to compete on the day without it.  Please link all athletes as soon as possible

 Athletes will receive wristbands either before the event when they pick up their athlete tees or on the day. Please wear this while you are at the venue

SCORING

On each station in the arena's, the judge will have the scoresheet where your teams score will be written.  At the end of your workout on that station, you need to check that the score written next to your team name is accurate and sign the score.

Once you are happy and signed your score sheet, the judge will initial next to the score.  The score will then be inputted into the scoreboard.

We have a LIVE scoreboard at the event powered by Team Aretas.  It takes around 5 minutes to update scores.  Please note, until ALL teams in your category (i.e. mixed teams) have completed the workout, your points are going to fluctuate.

ATHLETE WELFARE / RECOVERY

We are going to have a big recovery and chill out area at this years event, led by our recovery partners - MYO MASTER and physio partner MYOSET.  There will also be multiple physio, massage therapists and strappers on hand to sort out any niggles. This will be free to use across the weekend for all athletes.

Over the weekend we will also have trained first aid staff in attendance.    We know how hard some of you work out and compete, so please do what you can to prepare and recover for the big day. 

Please stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids on the day.  There will be plenty of water point around the venue - both to fill up your water bottle and to purchase. The ground is a 3G synthetic grass pitch when can get a little hot under warm sunlight.  Please wear plenty of suncreen and a hat if you wish.

We want to make sure everyone has a super enjoyable day so if you have any concerns or injuries please speak to your judge or one of the TG staff.  If you are feeling light headed or unwell please let someone know as soon as possible so we can ensure you get recovered and can enjoy the day. 

COMPETING RULES

RESPECT THE JUDGES.  The majority of staff have given up there time to come along and make sure the event runs smoothly.  We are determined to make this an incredible day for everyone involved.  Should you have any concerns about the workouts, judging etc on the day, please speak to your judge or master judge in a calm and respectful way.  

Please listen out for any directions, instructions or timings on the day.  We will provide you where and when you need to be somewhere so please do adhere to the schedule.  If you take any water bottles etc into a workout arena, please take it out at the end. Also, please place any rubbish in the bins provided.

We are passionate about making the Under Armour Turf Games a high standard, competitive but fun event.

BROKEN EQUIPMENT DURING A WORKOUT

During a workout, if a piece of equipment a team is using breaks - i.e. ski erg/rower etc - the team will have the option to use the replacement equipment if available and continue on with the workout.  Or at the end of all the workouts and before the finals, the team will have the option to redo the workout.  If they choose to do this, they will not get any extra 'rest' time should they qualify for the finals.
